More than a movement educator

Ever since she can remember, Adrienne has had a passion for the human body. She loves learning all she can about it and enthusiastically shares that knowledge. Not surprisingly, starting in her 20’s, Adrienne found herself on a path, teaching people how to move and care for their bodies.

As a young dancer, Adrienne injured her hamstring while performing, and for the first time in her life, was not able to heal from an injury. After six months of continued pain, a dancer friend recommended she work with Marie-José Blom, an expert in the field of body movement who used the Pilates method with her clients.

The experience was life-changing.

Not only did her hamstring completely heal, but Blom helped Adrienne reach new levels of strength and technique that she didn’t know she had! With this new understanding of body movement, Adrienne was inspired to start her own journey of learning to teach using this same transformative method.

Initially, Adrienne trained under her mentor at Long Beach Dance Conditioning in California where she studied Kinesiology, Bio-mechanics, and Physical Therapy protocols, along with the classical Pilates exercises. In 1995, she completed her training and certification. During this time, Adrienne also had the opportunity to take workshops from many leaders in the field of movement education and neuromuscular rehabilitation — Alan Herdman for Pilates, Marika Molnar, Katy Keller and Lana Parker for Physical Therapy and Jean-Claude West for Kinesiology and Bio-mechanics — all of whom inspired Adrienne's love for therapeutic application for movement.

Encouraged by her mentor, Adrienne also began to study the GYROTONIC® expansion system as part of her own training as a dancer. She quickly fell in love with this work and found it to be a natural progression in her continued education. In 1998, she became a certified trainer of GYROTONIC®. With its 3-dimensional capability, this system of movement was the missing piece she needed to train her clients in all the "spatial planes" the body experiences in everyday life as well as in more challenging, athletic endeavors.

Over the years, Adrienne has continued to broaden her understanding under the guidance and expertise of GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Master Trainers, including:

  • GYROKINESIS® Breath Course Intensive with Erika Hasan

  • GYROTONIC® Trunk Stabilization with Physical Therapist Rita Rhena

  • GYROTONIC® Psoas Principles with Juergen Bamberger

  • GYROTONIC® Therapeutic Application for Shoulder Girdle with Uwe Herbstreit

  • GYROTONIC® Therapeutic Applications for Pre- and Post-Op Hip Replacement with Hillary Cartwright

  • GYROTONIC® Therapeutic Application for Lumbo-Pelvis with Physical Therapists Paul Horvath and Uwe Herbstreit

  • GYROTONIC® Therapeutic Application for Hip and Knee with Lisa-Marie Goodwin

Always a student herself, Adrienne continues to grow as a teacher from these courses and more.

If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old.
If you are completely flexible at 60, you are young.
